If we had no winter...

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant; if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome.
Anne Bradstreet

I'm still thinking of the "if we had no winter" part... I think that I could live with that!

What We Could Be Experiencing This Morning

There have been years when November was miserably cold and snow was already building up on the ground. So far this year, we have gotten off lightly. It's actually quite nice out there!! But today's quotes are about what it could be like out there!!

A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.”
  Carl Reiner

I grew up on the edge of a national park in Canada - timberwolves, creeks, snow drifts. I really did have to walk home six miles through the snow, like your grandparents used to complain.
Dan Aykroyd

***I really am not a winter person at all. The only time snow is pretty is when it is in a Christmas card. Why can't snow be that wonderful in real life?  The minute we can retire... we are headed south for at least six months of the year!!

Dan's quote has to be a Canadian thing lol. How many times have you heard your own parents tell you how good you have it now when winter was positively horrid for them.

Hot coffee and cold winter mornings...

Hot coffee and cold winter mornings are two of the best soul mates who ever did find each other.
Terri Guillemets

*I love quotes that form a picture in your mind and this one definitely does it for me. And if you can find someone to make it for you... even better.  I fear that our coffee pot is on it's last legs. It is making some odd moaning noised that are increasing in loudness on a daily basis.

Sunday

Winter Came down to our home one night...

Winter came down to our home one night
Quietly pirouetting in on silvery-toed slippers of snow,
And we, we were children once again.
Bill Morgan, Jr.

The rooms were very still while the pages were softly turned and the winter sunshine crept in to touch the bright heads and serious faces with a Christmas greeting.
Louisa May Alcott

Monday

For a long winter's night... a quote

Brew me a cup for a winter's night.
For the wind howls loud and the furies fight;
Spice it with love and stir it with care,
And I'll toast our bright eyes,
my sweetheart fair.
Minna Thomas Antrim

A Quote About A Christmas Eve Yule Log

The grate had been removed from the wide overwhelming fireplace, to make way for a fire of wood, in the midst of which was an enormous log glowing and blazing, and sending forth a vast volume of light and heat; this I understood was the Yule-log, which the Squire was particular in having brought in and illumined on a Christmas eve, according to ancient custom.”

Washington Irving
